A merchat in Owl’s Head named Morgan asked me to discredit a competitor across the market, named Myra, by telling one of her customers that the meat she is selling is spoiled and made me sick, and then to return to him and tell him the task is complete.
After giving Myra‘s brother Myron the relief he sought, I was stopped by a man on the other side of a market street. Morgan wanted me to discredit his competitor, a woman, whose brother I had just slain. You can disagree by saying “no”.
“I told him I would not do such a thing, which did not make him very happy.”
I had heard that he has tried to do this before, and succeeded. Someone has actually went to Todd and said “Myra’s meat is spoiled”.
“What? You are serious? Thank you for warning me, traveller. I will have to buy food elsewhere.
“I did what Morgan asked and the customer, a farmer named Todd, believed me. The merchant involved, Myra, overheard and, to put it mildly, is not happy with me. I should go report my success to Morgan now.”
With a foul taste in my mouth I returned to smiling Morgan.
“I returned to Morgan and told him I did as he asked. He was true to his word, and gave me the reward that he promised. Still, I note that people who overheard our exchange are giving me a wide berth. Perhaps I should be more discreet about such jobs in the future.”
